They have trained in the field of podiatry to offer treatment for foot and ankle conditions and foot and ankle pain. Foot doctors are skilled at treating such conditions as bunions, hammertoes, warts, ingrown nails, heel pain, heel spurs, plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, shin splints, flat feet, fallen arches, diabetes, nail fungus, callus, athlete's foot, ankle sprains and more. They see children and adults in their practice. They offer treatment in the field of surgery and biomechanics. Surgical correction is offered for such conditions as painful bunions, bone spurs, fractures, broken bones, hammertoes, soft tissue mass, arthritis, and neuromas. They can perform gait analysis and analyze the biomechanics of the feet to determine a patient's foot type. Some people have high arched feet, others have flat feet. We can make custom molded orthotics for the different foot types to relieve aching pains in the feet. The orthotics are also helpful in sports medicine to support the feet during physical activity. A foot doctor is therefore very helpful at treating many different foot problems and can alleviate pain in the foot or ankle.
